History
From the very beginning the Union of Theatres in Europe established the conditions for professional artistic meetings all over Europe and for a great synergy among her members. She was a true bridge between East an West, she turned into reality an ambitious cultural dream. In fact, during the Nineties, the network of european theatres was slightly weak, european and worldwide festivals were pretty sporadic. There was a lack of true communication, a need for new forms of common creations. UTE pioneered the cause of the dialogue and of the cultural enrichment. This is why we can consider UTE as one of the supports of european unification. UTE is a melting-pot of talents and new artistic instances. She manages internationals workshops for young actors, directors, stage managers and scenographers. She promotes some european exhibitions around the theme of the theatre, international conferences and symposiums, translations of contemporary drama's masterpieces. Nowadays, UTE organized 17 Festivals all around Europe, in many different cities, where the work of local companies was showed and appreciated. This is actually a prestigious frame, for European theatre to develop itself, to express in its incredible specificity, to spread and charm the audience. Most of UTE's activities produces issues and publications : exhibitions' catalogues, festival's programs, meeting's acts, dossiers. Those documents form an important memory. They are the sign of a great vitality. The complex of our activities has grown up during the years and it continues growing, under the sign of mutual trust and coherency. UTE has contributed to the expression of high cultural tasks and political wishes, in many european countries. Our target is to strengthen the artistic cooperation, to favorise the transmission of knowledges from one generation of artists to each other, to promote the human dialogue, the balance between tradition and innovation. We act to renforce artists' mobility and professionals' mobility. We try to have new audiences, more and more huge and heterogeneous.
