UTE - what's up

The Union of Theatres in Europe gathers 19 theatres from the East, the West Half of them got in touch several years ago. Nowadays, everybody has learnt to understand each other, and to appreciate the work, the aesthetic and the artistic choices of the fellows.

With the beginning of 2008, Ute started reconsidering the idea of Festival in itself. After the first Festivals, marked by a topic, or a theme (Turin, Bucarest), the members of the UTE actually rediscussed the main concept of such events and discovered some inner limits. We found out, there was a kind of impossibility to meet the professionals workers of the theater. We noticed that the local audience hadn't actually access to the hearth of the shows. Than, the pieces were never shown out of their orignal context. Finally, it was very difficult to get a panoramic, complete view on the global creative context.

The new UTE's program for 2010, and for the following years, is not only the issue from an intensive cooperation, founded on twenty years of important relationships and shared tasks. It is the result of a very challenging, heavy periode. Some internal tensions and transitions marked the last two years and generated troubles in the structure of UTE. The whole project passed trough a crisis. We had to carry on, and to find new, powerful solutions for the future.

That's why UTE developed a new concept, based on a common one year-program. She became a PLURINATIONAL HOUSE, charming the audience with mini-festivals and events gathering professionals, novices, different kinds of audience, students involved in long lasting projets. Than, UTE created a « travelling audience », trough a NOMAD FESTIVAL. We will try to create specific groups of audiences, proper witness and supporters of a European Theatre. Thanks to such new inspirations, creators belonging to different theatres and to different countries will get in touch, discuss, share their differences and their talents. We will promote a new conscience of the theatre, back in its original context.
